Billhighway “adopts an entrepreneur” at Michigan Emerging

11/17/2010

Screen of famous "entrepreneurial spirits" from Michigan

Today, Billhighway was apart of the 1st annual Michigan Emerging conference in Dearborn, Michigan to support growth and development of Michigan-based start-up companies. There was a contagious energy in the air about the future of the state’s economy and the quality of ideas coming out of  Michigan.

A key point from Dr. Bryan Ritchie was the concept of Spotlight Michigan- Michigan State University’s challenge to keep young people in Michigan after graduation.

“This year Spotlight Michigan has a new team that is anticipating researching multidisciplinary methods to revive and support Michigan’s prosperous innovative future.”

One of the startups Billhighway is supporting is Loveland- a company with a dream to rebuild Detroit, one inch at a time. Follow their inspiring tweets at @makeLOVELAND.

Billhighway is proud to “adopt an entrepreneur” and lend a hand in the continuous efforts to improve the economy of our surrounding communities. For more information about Michigan Emerging, please visit their website at www.michiganemerging.com.

Interning @ Billhighway

10/25/2010

StarGuest blog post written by Katie Bludworth, marketing intern at Billhighway for the Fall 2010 semester.

I’m Katie and I’m the marketing intern at Billhighway for fall 2010. I’m writing this blog post to you from the comforts of the Billhighway offices, surrounded by the fantastic view of the changing colors of Troy and a large flat screen (which seems to be permanently tuned to ESPN).

When I first walked into the offices, I wasn’t sure what to expect – but this certainly wasn’t it. The laid-back attitude of the office as a whole makes it easy to feel comfortable in an otherwise intimidating atmosphere. Considering the wealth of knowledge the people around me have, I feel like I should continue my education for more than just the one year I have left of college; but with the friendly faces, sneakers and sweatshirts.

And that’s perhaps the best part of this internship – I’m not the coffee girl!

“I don’t run errands, I don’t make copies, I don’t fax papers, I work on legit projects that will be seen by clients.”

From my very first day, the entire team has done a great job of getting me involved in whatever was necessary. From being the face (and brains) behind a campaign for Tri Delta’s “Fat Talk Free” Week, to developing lists of clients and events for the company to attend, I’ve easily become integrated into the Billhighway team.

In such a short amount of time I’ve learned the most about what Billhighway does and how truly important the financial software market is for organizations worldwide. I’ve also learned about the marketing industry as a whole and that my years of surfing on the internet have taught me more about market research than I ever could have expected. Overall, I’ve learned what it’s like to be part of an industry that I’ve chosen to spend my educational career learning about and integrating into.

Being part of an internship has helped me figure out whether or not I’m on the right path in my life and I’m eternally grateful for that. For those of you who are reading this and considering an internship, I simply say – Do it, you won’t regret it.

If you have any advice for future interns, any comments, any questions – anything you’d like to say about interning at all, please comment below or tweet us!

If you are in the Metro Detroit area and would like to apply for our marketing internship for Spring, Summer and Fall semesters, please send your resume with subject line: Marketing Intern to jobs@billhighway.com.

On Wednesday, October 13, 2010, Billhighway’s CEO Vince Thomas spoke at the E2 Conference sponsored by TechTown at Wayne State University in Detroit. This event brings entrepreneurs together with business leaders, authors, investors and others for a program that both educates and inspires on how to create a business in a down economy.

Vince sat in on a panel discussion on “How to Market Fast in a Lean Launch” speaking to how entrepreneurs can still succeed in a down economy.

“Think out of the box, get ultra-creative, constantly be thinking of new and improved ways to do things, be open minded and keep working and changing” -Vince Thomas

Vince had the chance to discuss this topic with some great minds on the panel including Nolan Gottschalk of Shutterbooth, Paul Chambers of Core 3 Solutions, Chris Ygay or Revilize Day Spa and Scott Newman-Bale of Shorts Brewing.

The marketing team and the development team at Billhighway have a little rivalry going, but I think this is easily ten points for the marketing team. Ok, maybe we went a little too far. So they had to take their laptops and work from the kitchen all day…big deal, right?

time and to see it all happen is very exciting for the entire team and a great way to kick off 2010!”

Billhighway offers two types of services. On one end, there is a powerful Global solution designed for organizations requiring a full service accounting approach. This includes managing multiple entities, general ledger accounting, reporting, detailed visibility, funds routing and more. On the other end, Billhighway has designed a lighter, less accounting intense solution for groups that need to simply bill their members, collect payments and
manage basic accounting transactions.

Billhighway currently works with nearly 1,600 member based organizations across North America with the single goal of making group finances easy. Since forming in 1999, the company has managed over $2.2 billion in transactions.

Billhighway celebrates 10 years of making group finances easy

10/08/2009

From its beginnings nearly a decade ago as a simple money-management solution designed to collect money between roommates and paying bills, Billhighway has grown into a comprehensive web-based finance and accounting service targeted to the unique needs of member-based organizations.

Today, the company’s online financial services help member based groups bill members, collect money and streamline accounting processes. From Greek lettered organizations to associations, social groups and athletic teams, Billhighway has stayed true to its original goal of making group finances easy, no matter what type or size of group you are.
Billhighway began in 1999 as a simple service for roommates. When friends and strangers alike began requesting the service, the company’s foundation was formed.  Over the next few years, Billhighway made a leap ahead of the innovation curve by functionality and recruiting best in class professionals.

Billhighway’s next milestone was the complete and seamless integration of its accounting services and cash management, two vital components that are typically separate features. The company then launched an updated version of its software that delivered, for the first time, all accounting transactions in real time keeping these two vital components in sync.

“We’ve come a long way thanks to great customers and a lot of hard work and dedication by all the Billhighway team members,” said Steve Robert, Chief Information Officer. “We pride ourselves on listening carefully to what our customers need, and we improve our services accordingly based on their feedback as well as the changing market. Even greater things are on the way, so we’re excited about 2010 and beyond, and we know our customers will be, too.”

Is that Tom Cruise?
